Painted MDF
Sprayed flat colour, and the right answer when you want a piece to disappear into the wall rather than stand out from it — an alcove cupboard painted the same colour as the room reads as architecture, not as furniture.
It's also the most affordable finish here and the easiest to touch in: keep the paint reference and a chip fills in five minutes.
Two limits worth knowing. MDF doesn't like water on a cut edge, so dry spills quickly. And it holds a screw less well than ply or solid timber, so don't over-tighten the fittings when you reassemble it.
