Solid Walnut
The dark one. Deep chocolate-brown with a strong figure, and the most expensive timber we work in.
In a small room walnut does something oak can't: a dark piece against a pale wall reads as furniture rather than as more wall, which stops a room of matching light timber looking like a showroom. One walnut piece among oak is usually better than a whole room of it.
Walnut lightens with sunlight rather than darkening — the opposite of most timbers — so a piece in a bright window will shift over a few years. Rotate anything you keep on top of it if you'd rather it stayed even.
