International rates

We ship worldwide. Smaller pieces travel by tracked courier; wardrobes, storage walls and room packages travel palletised or crated on freight.

Destination Courier items Free over Large items Timing
Europe, including Ireland, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland £12.95 £150 £129 4–8 working days courier, 12–20 palletised
United States and Canada £22.95 £250 £299 5–10 working days courier, 8–12 weeks freight

Rest of the world £34.95 £350 £359 7–15 working days courier, 10–16 weeks freight

Free-over thresholds apply to courier items only. Furniture freight is never free. One charge per order, not per item.

International delivery is kerbside. The two-person, into-the-room service is a United Kingdom service only. Somebody needs to be there to receive a pallet and a way to get it inside.

Import duty and local tax

Orders shipped outside the United Kingdom do not include import duty or local sales tax. What you pay us covers the goods and the carriage only. Your customs authority sets the charge, the carrier or a broker collects it before delivery, and there is usually a handling fee on top. You are the importer of record, and if a shipment is refused or abandoned over unpaid charges it comes back to us at our cost — we refund the goods but not the carriage either way.

Furniture attracts real duty in most countries. On a room package the amount is not small, so please look up your own country's rate before you order rather than after the broker calls.

Fixings, walls and renting abroad

Everything in this shop states whether it needs a drill, and a good deal of it does not — that is rather the point of the range. Our Renting page covers the no-drill options, and those travel anywhere without a second thought.

Where a piece does need fixing to a wall, the fixings we supply are chosen for British wall construction: brick, block, dot-and-dab plasterboard on masonry, and timber stud at 400 or 600mm centres. North American timber frame at 16 or 24 inch centres is close but uses different board thickness and locally-sold anchors. Concrete and blockwork, common across the Gulf and southern Europe, need masonry anchors we do not supply. If you are outside Britain, have a local fitter confirm the anchor before you drill.

Anti-tip anchoring on tall storage is not optional anywhere, whatever the local rules say, and it matters most in a home with small children. If the supplied anchor does not suit your wall, ask us what pull-out load the bracket needs to carry and your fitter can specify the right one.

Which items are two-person?

Anything one person shouldn't carry up a stairwell: wardrobes, fold-down bed cabinets, modular storage walls, compact living systems, room packages, chests of six drawers, and the larger dining sets. The product page says so, and the charge appears at checkout — you won't be surprised by it afterwards.

UK two-person delivery is booked with you by telephone in a time window, and includes carrying the item into the room of your choice on the ground floor, or up to two floors where the stairs allow. It does not include assembly, unpacking to a finished state, or taking away an old piece unless that was agreed in writing.

Shopify charges one rate per shipping profile, so an order with a wardrobe and a set of felt pads is charged both the standard rate and the two-person rate — or, over £300 in the UK, the two-person rate alone.

Before your delivery: measure the route

This is the single most common cause of a failed delivery and it is entirely preventable. Our Will It Fit? guide walks through it properly, but the short version:

  • Measure the clear opening of every door on the route, with the door standing open. It's usually 20–40mm narrower than the door itself.
  • Measure the tightest turn — both corridor widths, added together, minus 100mm.
  • Measure the half-landing diagonally and the headroom at the turn.
  • Check the lift door height, not just the car.
  • Tell us at the point of ordering about a controlled parking zone, a gated entrance, a loading restriction, or no lift above the second floor.
  • On an international order, measure against the pallet or crate, not the furniture. Packaging adds 100 to 150mm on every face.

If a delivery fails because the item could not be got into the building, we'll do what we can to help, but a redelivery is chargeable — and internationally it is very expensive. If you're unsure, send us the tightest measurement before you order and we'll tell you.

Flat-pack, assembled, and what arrives in how many boxes

Small items — bedside tables, nests of tables, stools, plant stands — arrive assembled or need only legs fitting. Larger storage arrives flat, because a 2,000mm bookcase assembled in a factory does not go round a first-floor landing.

Packages and modular systems arrive in several boxes and may not all arrive on the same day. That is normal in the UK. On an international order everything ships together on one consignment, which is slower but far less likely to strand you waiting for one box that went to a different port.

Damage and missing parts

  • Check the outer packaging before you sign. If it's damaged, sign for it as damaged — that one word protects you, and on international freight it is the difference between a paid claim and a rejected one.
  • Report transit damage within 7 days, with photographs of the damage and the packaging. That usually settles it the same day.
  • Missing fittings — email us the part letter from the instruction sheet and we'll post a replacement free, anywhere in the world. You don't need to send anything back and you don't need to wait for a courier.
  • Keep the packaging until you've assembled it and you're happy. If something has to go back, it needs to go back in the box it arrived in — and on an international order there is no realistic substitute for the original packaging.

Made-to-measure orders

Lead times for made-to-order work are on the Made to Measure page and run from 3 to 8 weeks. Delivery is arranged with you once the piece is finished, not at the point of ordering. Add international transit on top — a made-to-measure wardrobe crated to Singapore is a five to seven month project from order to bedroom.

Tracking and problems

You'll get a despatch email with tracking where the carrier provides it, and a phone call for UK two-person deliveries. International freight is tracked to the destination port and then by the local delivery agent, who will contact you to arrange a date. If a UK parcel hasn't arrived within 7 working days of despatch, or an international one within 20, email support@homartuk.com with your order number and we'll chase it. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 the goods are our responsibility until they reach you — a lost parcel is our problem to solve, not yours, and we apply that rule worldwide.
