FAQ

Fitting it in

Will it get through my door?

Compare the item's smallest cross-section — published on every product page — to the clear opening of your tightest door, measured with the door standing open. The clear opening is usually 20–40mm narrower than the door itself. Will It Fit? covers turns, stairs and lifts too, and it's the page worth ten minutes before you order.

How much space do I need around it?

600mm to walk past, 900mm for a main route, 760mm to stand and open a drawer, 900mm to push a dining chair back. The full table is in Will It Fit?.

My alcove is 612mm and your unit is 600mm. Will it look wrong?

Slightly, and you'll see the gap every day. That's what Made to Measure is for — a cupboard built to 612mm and scribed to the wall costs less than most people expect.

Why is everything under 800mm wide?

Because that's the constraint a small British flat actually imposes. It isn't a style choice.

Renting

Does it need drilling?

Every product page says. Three labels: freestanding, no drilling needed, and wall fixed, and we say so. You can filter the whole shop by them.

I rent. Can I buy anything here safely?

362 of our products need no hole at all. The honest exception: if there are small children in the home, tall chests and wardrobes should be strapped to the wall whatever the label says. Four small holes, permission in writing, filled on the way out. The renting page explains why we won't fudge that.

Will holes cost me my deposit?

Usually not — what costs deposits is unfilled holes. Get permission in writing, photograph before and after, use the smallest fixing that works, and make good a week before the final inspection rather than on the day.

Can I take it with me when I move?

If it's tagged comes apart for the next move, yes — knock-down fittings that undo and re-tighten. We also sell spare fittings kits, because one lost cam lock is what usually kills a flat-pack unit.

Buying

What's a package?

A whole small room specified as one order in one material, so the pieces match and the proportions work together. Cheaper than the same items bought separately and considerably less decision-making. Start at Furnish a whole flat.

Will two pieces bought months apart match?

Close, but not identical — timber varies batch to batch. If matching matters, buy them together as a bundle or a package, which is how we supply them from one batch.

Do you do trade or landlord orders?

Yes. Email support@homartuk.com with what you're furnishing and how many units; rental-ready packages are the usual answer.

Delivery

What does delivery cost?

£5.95 under £300, free at £300 and over. Large items carry a £49 two-person charge, shown at checkout. Mainland UK only. See Delivery.

Does it come assembled?

Small items yes or nearly; larger storage arrives flat, because an assembled 2,000mm bookcase doesn't go round a first-floor landing.

My package arrived in three boxes and one is missing.

Multi-box orders often arrive on different days — the despatch email says how many to expect. If a box is more than 48 hours behind the rest, email us and we'll chase it.

There's no lift and I'm on the fourth floor.

Tell us when you order. It changes how we pack and which service we book, and it's much cheaper to know beforehand.

Assembly and care

A fitting is missing.

Email the part letter from the instruction sheet and we'll post a replacement free, usually the same day. Don't send anything back.

My unit rocks.

Your floor isn't level; almost none are. Everything over 600mm tall ships with adjustable feet — if yours didn't, tell us and we'll send a set.

How do I look after oiled oak?

Dry dust, damp cloth for marks, re-oil once a year or when water stops beading. Full routine on Assembly & Care.

Can I put a rattan-fronted cabinet in the bathroom?

No. Cane webbing sags and spots in humidity. Dry rooms only, and the product page says so.
