Finish

A 800mm wardrobe at 560mm deep, which is the shallowest a hanging rail can be without the shoulders of a coat touching the door. Sized for the main bedroom in a flat, and the widest we make.

Everything we sell is under 800mm wide. That is not a style, it is the constraint the whole range is designed around, because it is the measurement that decides whether a piece of furniture works in a small flat. Eight hundred millimetres is roughly the width of a standard internal door, the width of the gap most people have between a sofa and a wall, and the point past which a piece stops reading as part of the room and starts reading as an obstacle. Designing to it is harder than designing without it and it is the only interesting thing about furniture for small spaces.

Specification

  • Dimensions: 800mm wide by 560mm deep by 1900mm high
  • Floor footprint: 0.45 square metres
  • Material: solid English ash, pale and straight grained, finished in hardwax oil
  • Finish: hardwax oiled or sprayed, handles in your chosen finish
  • Capacity: hanging rail rated to 40kg, top shelf to 25kg
  • Assembly: flat packed, two people, about 90 minutes
  • Getting it in: Flat packed in 3 cartons, largest 860mm by 1950mm by 140mm. Through a standard 762mm door: on its side, yes. Into a small lift: only in a lift with a 1400mm car, otherwise it goes up the stairs
  • Weight: approximately 63.9 kilograms
  • Depth: 560mm, the minimum a coat hanger genuinely needs
  • Hanging: one full width rail with a shelf over
  • Doors: hinged, not sliding, because a sliding door on an 800mm carcass loses you half the opening
  • Door swing: 520mm clearance needed in front, stated because nobody else states it
  • Comes apart flat for a move without damaging the joints
  • Anti tip strap supplied, wall fixing optional

What you get

  • The carcass and doors, flat packed in three cartons
  • One full width hanging rail with end sockets
  • One top shelf
  • Handles in your chosen finish
  • Levelling feet, felt pads and an anti tip strap
  • Hex key, spanner and printed instructions

Assembly

Flat packed and best done by two people, mostly for the moment you stand it up. About an hour with a hex key and a spanner, both in the box. Fittings are cam locks and threaded steel inserts, so it comes apart and goes back together properly rather than chewing out the panel.

If you are renting

Freestanding, no wall fixing needed and no holes in anybody's plaster. An anti tip strap is in the box if you want it and there is nothing to make good if you never use it. Felt pads are fitted to every foot as standard, because the other way to lose a deposit is a scratch across a floor you did not lay.
