Finish

a run of low modules under a window with a padded top, which turns dead wall into seating and storage without blocking the light.

Everything we sell is under 800mm wide. That is not a style, it is the constraint the whole range is designed around, because it is the measurement that decides whether a piece of furniture works in a small flat. Eight hundred millimetres is roughly the width of a standard internal door, the width of the gap most people have between a sofa and a wall, and the point past which a piece stops reading as part of the room and starts reading as an obstacle. Designing to it is harder than designing without it and it is the only interesting thing about furniture for small spaces.

Specification

  • Dimensions: 800mm module grid, nothing over 800mm wide in any single piece
  • Floor footprint: about 1.0 square metres
  • Material: 18 layer birch plywood with the edge left exposed and lacquered, so the layers read as a stripe
  • Finish: one finish across the whole system
  • Capacity: bed platform rated to 200kg, storage modules to 40kg each
  • Assembly: flat packed, two people, about five hours
  • Getting it in: Flat packed in 8 cartons, largest 820mm by 1300mm by 380mm. Through a standard 762mm door: on its side, yes. Into a small lift: yes
  • Weight: approximately 82.6 kilograms
  • Module size: 800 by 400 by 360mm throughout
  • Extends and rearranges: modules unbolt and go back together elsewhere
  • Ceiling height needed: 2100mm
  • Fixing: freestanding
  • Comes apart into pieces none of which exceeds 24 kilograms

What you get

  • Every module, flat packed
  • Connecting bolts, dowels and levelling feet
  • The padded top with a removable washable cover
  • Anti tip straps and felt pads
  • One hex key, one spanner and a layout drawing

Assembly

Flat packed and best done by two people, mostly for the moment you stand it up. About an hour with a hex key and a spanner, both in the box. Fittings are cam locks and threaded steel inserts, so it comes apart and goes back together properly rather than chewing out the panel.

If you are renting

Freestanding, no wall fixing needed and no holes in anybody's plaster. An anti tip strap is in the box if you want it and there is nothing to make good if you never use it. Felt pads are fitted to every foot as standard, because the other way to lose a deposit is a scratch across a floor you did not lay.
